anime/manga suggestions?

Wed Jan 20, 2010, 7:24 AM

Can anyone suggest some anime series or even manga?  I've been out of the loop for years now and don't know where to start- and can't really find anything that looks interesting- i've looked over manga list websites and etc.  Or maybe i'm just lazy. XD
I'm open to anything, although i tend to like the silly perverted manga/anime like ranma or even golden boy. XD  Anything with a good storyline DD:
If you want you  can tell me a general synopsis(nothing long or anything) for the series you suggest.
thanks to anyone who helps! :)

I'm surprised no one is mentioning anything more recent than 2000.
This season Kimi ni Todoke is a cute romcom.
Trapeze is a crazy psychological trip series.
I like Hidamari Sketch for cute series about girls at an art school. Its by Shaft so it has their trademark art style. 3 seasons of stuff.
Another good slice of life series is Sketchbook.
K-ON also falls into the same genre as the previous two, using music instead.
And by now you'd probably run out of time if you tried to watch everything at once. I know I do.

onemanga.com has plenty of translated manga to go around -- it just depends on what's your flavor.

From sports to medicine to historical, if you have a specific taste, it will be easier for you to find one you'd like to read.

then there's other subjects like romance, slice of life, et al...

My favorite slice of life series is Saint Young Men... which is actually Buddha and Jesus spending a sabatical year in Tokyo Japan and just trying to have a normal life.

Like I said, what's important is to know what kind of genre you're gonna follow

Like, if you like Murder/Mysteries, I'd recommend Higurashi no Naku koro Ni and Umineko No Naku Koro Ni

but if you like sports, I'd recommend Eyeshield 21 and Prince of Tennis

if you like medical drama, I'd recommend Team Medical Dragon and Emerging

if you like historical, I'd recommend Vinland Saga and Spice and Wolf (even with its fantasy elements)

if you like fantasy/epic, I'd recommend Claymore

if you like psychological, I'd recommend Pluto, 20th Century Boys and Monster.

Be aware that other than sports, these series are quite mature, then again, it should be obvious considering the topics.

i can't really name any genres i like, i listed romentic/comedy above since thats all i can come up with for preference; i mean i liked all of rumiko takahashi's works like ranma(martial arts/ comedy?) lum(scifi) another scifi anime that i can't remember the name of it... it's probably easier to list genres i wouldn't like lol. no drama, no violent fetish(like tentacle or violent rape in general) not really a sports fan but then again it depends on the quality and storyline... i know this didn't help but thanks anyway for the suggestions :)

There's a Random selection in the search box, use that as a start!
Just read whatever it lands on.
And that means WHATEVER...

Or go down the popular list, good stuff there.

Buddha, osamu tezuka.
the history of Buddhism as told by the godfather of manga, most beautiful story telling in a comic i've ever seen.

if you're looking for comedy i would suggest cromarti high. either the manga or anime. i love its ridiculous style, also that it's not too over the top/dramatic.

paranoia agent is good too, even tho it has a typical crapanime ending. idk maybe it just was thrown together... A plot synopses would ruin the experience.
